Piccione’s Sandia Hoormann unveiled the flavor profile of her sweet interpretation of the book “The Giving Tree” in pastry form at the press tasting event for “A Taste of Fiction.” The press tasting, which took place at the Central Library on Tuesday, January 27th, gave participating chefs the chance to present and describe the flavors of their cake and the literary inspiration behind it. Cakes presented were scaled down versions of the grander versions to be showcased at Taste of Fiction on March 6th.
A Taste of Fiction (ToF), a fundraiser for St. Louis Public Library, aims to showcase the best pastry chefs and chocolatiers in the St. Louis area. ToF challenged pastry chefs to choose a work of fiction and interpret it. 16 culinary minds are participating, including chefs from Cravings, Companion Bakery, and of course, Piccione!
Classic works up for interpretation include The Odyssey by Homer, which will be created by Cravings, and Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll, serving as inspiration for Crepes etc.
