Piccione Pastry, St. Louis’ only Italian pastry shop of its kind, will host free “Language of Love” events every Wednesday in February from 7:30-8:30 p.m. The shop will partner with married couple Kaetlyn Macauley and Francesco Velocci of Gusto Gourmet Creamery, the makers of Piccione’s in-house gelato and sorbet. Guests can enjoy authentic Italian pastries while learning about the Italian culture.
Take a “trip” through Italy with stops in Florence, Venice, Rome and Naples. Each of these cities will serve as the inspiration for a theme: culture, food and wine, Italian attitudes and lifestyle, history, and more.
“We are thrilled to host the ‘Language of Love’ event series,” said Executive Pastry Chef Martin Lopez. “What better way to learn about a culture and celebrate love. Guests will have a chance to practice the ‘language of love’ in Italian as Kaetlyn and Francesco teach phrases such as, ‘I love you,’ ‘kiss,’ ‘hug,’ and more. Guests are welcome to attend all four nights.”
The presentations will include short clips of Italian films that gently poke fun of Italian behaviors, family and lifestyle. The event heats up during the week of Valentine’s Day. The presentation will focus on Venice and the extremely passionate relationships of Italians. Macauley and Velocci will highlight the nearby city of Verona, which is the setting of Romeo and Juliet.
“We will talk about Italian stereotypes in a fun and lighthearted atmosphere,” said Macauley. “We were married in Rome and we want to share our experiences about the Italian culture. We will provide useful information about each city along with helpful Italian phrases, tips and tricks.”
